Crafted from premium horse leather sourced from Nitta, Japan, the Western Pioneer Indigo is a unique rendition of the classic 1960s Type III jacket. To achieve this, Double Helix utilizes one of the most unique horsehide leathers money can buy. Painstakingly tanned by Nitta Tannery exclusively for Double Helix, this leather will age gracefully, akin to the finest denim.
The leather:
What truly sets the Western Pioneer apart is its innovative dyeing process. Unlike traditional denim jackets, which merely undergo design improvements, this jacket embarks on a transformative journey. Immersed in indigo, the horse leather undergoes a process akin to denim's aging, resulting in a nuanced patina that evolves over time. This pioneering technique, introduced by Double Helix in 2018, creates a leather jacket that ages gracefully, developing unique characteristics reminiscent of well-worn denim.
This tanning process involves drying and aging stages that can last up to a year. Nitta Tannery, located in Himeji, Japan, has been tanning premium horsehide since 1946. Along with Shinki, another horsehide tannery also located in Himeji, it is renowned for tanning the most unique hides that can be found in the world. Only 2-3% of raw hides even meet the high quality standards double helix uses for its jackets.
Construction:
This jacket presents a unique challenge in construction due to the thickness of the material. However, the result is a sleek and refined appearance that sets you apart with its individuality. Embellished with Double Helix's signature brass buttons, every aspect of this jacket speaks to its exclusivity and attention to detail. At the forefront of its design is the iconic inverted triangle motif, a hallmark of Double Helix's meticulous craftsmanship. Carefully crafted to create the illusion of rounded triangles and ensuring that the peaks of the triangles align with the hem belt, every detail exudes sophistication and originality.
Fit:
It features broad shoulders, a reasonably slim chest, and a good taper into the waist. This curved body shape fits perfectly for a modern look. We suggest selecting your regular Japanese leather jacket size for the ideal slim fit. Nonetheless, individual body shapes may differ, hence, we recommend referring to our size chart to ensure a perfect fit.
